On Saturday, June 8, families and book enthusiasts gathered at the Paramaribo Zoo for the official launch of Alphabet Adventure, a unique coloring book that blends creativity with learning. Designed to introduce children to the alphabet while exploring fruits and animals in nature, this series marks a milestone for its creator, Jonathan Misiekaba, as his first book release in Suriname.
Coloring book Inspiration
During the launch event, Misiekaba shared the heartfelt story behind the creation of Alphabet Adventure.
“My son loves videos. He’s a big fan of shows like Cocomelon and Ms. Rachel. One day, while watching an educational program, he spontaneously joined in reciting the alphabet. That moment inspired me to create something that combines learning with fun for children,” he explained.
Initially written in English, the book first debuted on Amazon, where Misiekaba gauged public interest.
“I wasn’t sure if people would be interested. But after seeing the demand on Amazon, I gained the confidence to translate it into Dutch and introduce it in Suriname,” he said.
Overcoming Challenges to present this coloring book
Though Misiekaba initially aimed for a January launch, the journey to the June release wasn’t without hurdles.
“After two months of preparation, I encountered unexpected issues with the printing process. Prices surged by 2.5 times within a short period, making it challenging to stick to the original plan,” he revealed.
Despite these challenges, the final product was met with enthusiasm from the audience, reflecting the dedication and effort invested in bringing Alphabet Adventure to life.
Encouraging Parental Involvement
Misiekaba emphasized that Alphabet Adventure is more than just a coloring book; it’s a tool to strengthen the bond between parents and children.
“The goal is to encourage parents to actively engage with their children—not just by handing them a tablet but by participating in activities like coloring and helping them learn to pronounce words,” he shared.
